Movement & Dance

Movement and Dance are the language of the body – the language that is not verbalised but expressed through the body’s movements and actions. My philosophy is to use dance and movement as a tool for physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Movement is a wonderful way to keep the body fit and agile allowing a person to explore their creativity too. The space I offer is non competitive and does not involve a particular dance technique, rather a place for one to draw out their own particular brand of movement.

“All are welcome to partake in one to one sessions, and this type of physical and non-verbal expression can be a very powerful process for expressing deep emotions and equally a space to just let go, have fun and let off steam!”

Sessions

During a 1-2-1 session the client has my complete focus which can be extremely beneficial for clients that may have a learning disability. If a person is non verbal, using movement can be a powerful key for expression, allowing a different kind of communication and a way to release emotion.

I use music, props and games to create a stimulating environment for the client. It is also a space for them to unwind and let go. By supporting the individuals movement, and through partner dancing and contact, I hope to develop and raise an individuals confidence, self esteem and general wellbeing to offer the experience of fun, joy and creativity.

Space to Move

Space to move is a dance platform with a difference.  If you love to dance and move, but feel you can’t find the right venue and atmosphere then this is the space for you.

Movement and dance is a wonderful way to keep the body active, and explore your creativity at the same time, it also helps to remind us of the joyful and playful sides of ourselves that are not always given the opportunity to be expressed.

The medium of dance can bring up many issues for people, who feel they cannot dance, or have no rhythm or feel they are not elegant and sleek like professional dancers.  I see many people who love to dance, but feel afraid and not good enough and so tend to back away through embarrassment and lack of confidence.  Another issue is not finding the right venue to dance, lots of people don’t feel comfortable to go to night clubs, or pubs to dance.

The aim of Space to move is to offer a non-competitive, non-judgemental, alcohol and drug free, free flowing dance space for those whom wish to move. I will not be ‘teaching’ dance, but facilitating a space for people to dance and move in. I will give some direction, but keep it to a minimum. Within this session you can immerse yourself into your own movement journey, a movement meditation, and just enjoy the moment and the power of letting go.

Giving the body a chance to move and express itself naturally has many benefits, not only on a physical level helping to keep you fit, but also on an emotional and spiritual level too.

Space to move will offer a space for individuals to explore movement, enjoy the celebration of movement, alone and with others. During these sessions we will be exploring the four elements which will be the guiding the dance.

I would like the sessions to offer each person the opportunity to release their cares, and mental baggage, let off a bit of steam, get back into their body and leave with a lighter heart!

Please bring a drink and wear layered clothes if possible – bring something warm if it is cold. Please bring a mat and/ or a blanket for your comfort.

Group Sessions

I am interested in working with different groups within the community and do not exclusively work with people with learning disabilities. I would like to create opportunities for group sessions with children and adults of all ages, providing an exciting and fun movement experience.
