Reflexology is the ancient practise of gentle pressure being applied to the feet or hands by the hands of the therapist. I offer Reflexology massage and treatments as a mobile complementary therapy service so that you may be treated in the comfort and security of your own home.

The Feet are Like Mirrors of the Body

Reflexology can benefit many people and is a wonderful way to relax and de-stress the body, which is a vital part of living a healthy life.
Reflexology has many benefits including but not limited to:

  • Relaxation
  • Stress relief
  • Detoxification
  • Improved circulation
  • Spiritual and emotional wellbeing

Our feet carry us around day after day without a fuss or complaint…. remember these forgotten friends and give them a treat from time to time!

The Principles of Reflexology

The roots of this practice are thought to originate back to China and Egypt over 5,000 years ago. The word ‘reflex’ in the context of reflexology means a ‘reflection’ or ‘mirror image’. The theory is that the whole body and all its organs are reflected on the feet (and hands), and the whole body can be mapped to some extent on the feet (and hands).

The therapist uses gentle pressure to work the reflexes with their thumbs, fingers, and hands. By stimulating the reflexes of the feet (or hands) the body, the circulation and all the bodies’ organs are also stimulated.

Reflexology is believed to help activate the bodies own natural ability to heal, by helping to free up energy blocks, stimulating circulation, nervous system and relaxing the client.

There are over 7,000 nerve endings in each foot which makes the feet a very sensitive and receptive part of the body. The feet tend to be favoured to practice reflexology on rather than the hands due to the fact that they are very sensitive and experience less sensory exposure in our day to day life; but the hands can be practiced on successfully if client’s feet cannot be used to practice.

Reflexology is a wonderful therapy for stress release and is thought to be a helpful preventative measure for stress related illness.

Hand Reflexology

Hand Reflexology is another alternative to foot reflexology. If for some reason the feet are unable to be practised upon due to injury for example, the effects of hand reflexology are just as beneficial and it is also an extremely relaxing experience. The hands are also a mirror of the body and the same reflexes that are mapped onto the feet are also mapped onto the hands. Hand reflexology can be practised in its own right as a stand-alone treatment or it can be combined with foot reflexology for a more thorough and enhanced treatment.

Benefits of Hand Reflexology

– Aids relaxation

– Relieves stress and stress related problems

– Simple techniques can be used for self-practise

– Valuable and healing treatment for arthritis

– Valuable and healing treatment for RSI and carpal tunnel syndrome

– Alternative to practising reflexology on the feet

Spinal Reflexology

This form of reflexology is centred on stimulating the spinal reflexes on the feet. This method can greatly enhance a treatment by working on a deeper level through the nerves of the spinal column via the feet. By using spinal reflexology, attention can be focused on the reflexes that have been identified as out of balance giving the body a greater opportunity to self-heal.

The spinal column carries the nerves from the brain to all parts of the body. As the nerves supply the different organs and muscles, any damage or constrictions to them will in turn affect the organ or muscle they supply. Spinal reflexology can help to identify vertebrae that may be compressed that will in turn be affecting neural pathways and help to unblock them.

Benefits of Spinal Reflexology

– Promote healing by working on the spinal nerve roots and helping to open up neural pathways

– Can help with natural pain relief with regular treatments

– Can increase feelings of wellbeing

Relaxation for Reflexology

Using breathing techniques, visualisation and targeted reflex points, this method of reflexology can induce very deep states of relaxation.

This is a wonderful technique that can help promote a calm and centred approach to life, helping to reduce stress levels and anxiety.  It can be used for a wide range of physical and minor emotional difficulties and blockages.

Expectant mothers may find this technique very useful throughout their pregnancy and for their birthing process.

Equally many different people may find that they can gain great benefits from this powerful technique.

Benefits of Relaxation for Reflexology

– Can be helpful for letting go of harmful stressful patterns

– Helps to promote the body’s natural ability to heal itself

– Can help to improve a person’s sense of emotional wellbeing and balance

– Helps to improve quality of sleep
